The church of Mesopotam is dedicated to St.Nicholas, a saint between East and West and has in itself the sense of this "door" between two very different worlds. The four domes are supported by a column in the apse area that is the result of a restoration that took place in 1700, while the structure could date back to 1220-1225, which is also apparent from the characters in imperial garments that can be seen in some remains of frescoes unfortunately, however, now not visible.
